Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The curtain has closed on the 2025 edition of the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) Science Quiz Competition and Science Project Exhibition conducted in collaboration with Dragnet Scholarships; with outstanding secondary schools in Rivers State emerging victorious in a celebration of scientific brilliance, creativity, and innovation.

This year’s competition, themed “Renewable Energy: The Future of Sustainability,” concluded on June 21st, 2025 in Port Harcourt, spotlighting the brightest young minds across Rivers State public secondary schools. The event served as a powerful platform for showcasing STEM excellence and driving conversations on sustainable energy solutions among Nigeria’s future scientists and engineers.

After intense quiz rounds covering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and a special segment on renewable energy, Community Secondary School, Igbo Etche emerged as the 1st place winner of the 2025 Science Quiz Competition. They were followed closely by Model Secondary School, G.R.A Port Harcourt in 2nd place, and Bonny National Grammar School in 3rd place.

The Science Exhibition

In the Science Project Exhibition segment, which ran alongside the quiz competition, Oginigba Comprehensive Secondary School took home the 1st prize for their innovative project presentation. Bonny National Grammar School continued their winning streak by claiming the 2nd place position, while Community Secondary School, Kira Tai secured 3rd place honours.

Throughout the competition, NLNG maintained its tradition of integrating technology into the event experience. The quiz featured real-time responses via a dedicated mobile application, with questions and scores displayed on LED screens to engage the live audience.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognising not only the winning teams but also exceptional students and dedicated teachers. Prizes worth up to ₦10 million were distributed, including special awards and gift items to top performers in both the quiz and science exhibition categories.

Speaking about the Science Quiz Competition, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, remarked:

Organised in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Rivers State chapter, and facilitated by Dragnet Scholarships, , the NLNG Science Quiz continues to be a flagship STEM development programme, inspiring public school students to pursue careers in science and technology.
